Lord Enrico Ashton is just one of many bel canto roles for which Ryan Edwards has received critical praise throughout his career.  Opera (London) wrote:  “It was Ryan Edwards’ Enrico which walked away with the evening’s honours.  His is a rich, virile, noble and beautifully modulated baritone.”  When Mr. Edwards made his Metropolitan Opera debut in Lucia di Lammermoor with Beverly Sills, Cue magazine called his performance “A welcome Christmas gift from the Met,” and Newsday reported:  “Edwards has a very fine voice, dark and strong, and a powerful and intelligent stage presence.  He managed to portray Enrico as a man who is himself tortured by the torture he is putting his sister through.  It was an impressive introduction to the Met.”  This landmark production, Beverly Sills’ only appearances as Lucia with the company, was broadcast internationally and later released on CD.
